Emission Control Areas (ECA’s) implemented in Yangtze River Delta, China

Regarding the implementation of Emission Control Areas (ECA’s) throughout China, please note that effective April 1st 2016, the Yangtze River Delta area is to become the first zone where 0.5% sulphur fuel will be Mandatory for all vessels. Vessels will have to comply with the ruling within one hour of arrival at berth (please note that vessels waiting at anchorages, will still be be considered ‘at berth’), and should be carrying compliant fuel on arrival.

Yangtze River Delta area, incorporates Nanjing, Zhengjiang, Yangzhou, Taizhou, Nantong, Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, Shanghai, Jiangxing, Huzhou, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Ningbo, Zhoushan & Taizhou. (This includes all Yangtze river ports).

You should note that vessels calling at all other ports within China can be ‘requested’ to burn max 0.5% fuels, and therefore it is essential that the correct grade is already on-board on arrival..
We would expect all other areas to become mandatory in due course.
